10) Small Brown Bike - Fell & Found
A strangely relaxing comeback album, and a grower for sure.
9) La Dispute - Wildlife
Not quite as strong as their debut, but the last half of this album is absolutely devastating.
8) An Horse - Walls
A charming indie-pop record with adorable vocals.
7) The Decemberists - The King is Dead
It’s uncharacteristically unambitious, but that may be for the better, in this case, as the result is a focused indie-rock record with overt folk influences.
6) Balance and Composure - Separation
A sweeping, engaging emo record. A very strong debut.
5) Nick 13 - Nick 13
This long-awaited country-based solo album is indicative of Nick’s growth and maturation as a songwriter. Let’s hope the next Tiger Army LP isn’t too far behind.
4) Caravels - Floorboards
Dynamic, well-structured post-hardcore reminiscent of Thursday, Modern Life is War, and Pianos Become the Teeth.
3) Bright Eyes - The People’s Key
A unique farewell album with exceptional lyrics. Conor Oberst yet again succeeds at pursuing an unexplored direction.
2) Pianos Become The Teeth - The Lack Long After
Heartbreaking, cathartic, and touching. A phenomenal record that sensitively documents the transition from loss to acceptance.
1) Touché Amoré - Parting the Sea Between Brightness and Me
A stunning, flawless sophomore LP. Touché Amoré is the most exciting and promising young hardcore band today.
